Anyone Run without a rear driveshaft??

I'm getting some serious vibes from the rear driveshaft AND some major grinding from the rear diff. I won't have the $$ to get parts and install until the 15th. So, anyone out there run in 4hi with the rear driveshaft pulled? How long and how fast did you run this setup?

The grinding is only when I'm on the gas. When I coast, it stops. I'm going to pull the rear driveshaft this weekend to double check that it's not just the driveshaft making all the noise. Either way, I'll be running without the rear driveshaft for about a week or two. Someone out there has gotta have been in a similar situation, so again, the question... How long did you drive in 4hi with the rear driveshaft pulled? Did you drive 60-70 mph? I commute about 15 miles each way, 95% highway at 65 - 70 mph.

Running in 4hi without a rear DS will be fine. But if you have issues with your gears in the rear diff it won't help. You need to open that diff up, inspect and clean it out.

I drove on my front DS only for nearly a month.
Just be careful in the corners as you are not able to turn the same was as you do in rear wheel drive.

BTW, I might have an old stock DS in the garage. Not sure if it is a rear or a front. Let me know if you want it, you are welcome to it.

I have made it back from the trail a couple times without a rear DS. Just don't do any high speed driving as JK auto trans get VERY hot in 4-hi.

Never done it in the JK, but used to do it in my CJ all the time. Never went over about 45.

I did it on my full size 84 chevy blazer (lots of times ) for weeks with no problems. I know i'd seen threads on jko of JK t-cases that exploded. I can't find those posts now and I was pretty sure they were accidentally left in 4lo. I was pretty sure i'd be ok for a week or two, but I wanted a little more reassurance. Unfortunately I'll have to flog it and do 60 mph. Reading the above posts, I'm feeling confident I'll be okay.

Thanks again everyone for your posts.

Thanks WE, but I'm running Rubi 44 up front in my X model (non-rubi rear). I' happy with the 4.88s.
