Rear Seat Headrests

Something I've wanted to ask about for a long time and always forget. Is there a way to remove those damn rear seat headrests? 2009 Rubi Unlimited. Thanks!

I know on my 2012 I click the little insert at the base of one of the posts and they slide right off

You have to remove the seat covers and then unbolt them from what I have seen. I just popped the springs off and leave them down most of the time.

I did the springs but still have to use a bungee cord to keep them from coming up when I hit bumps and stuff

Mission Accomplished. A bit of an alligator wrestling match, but they come right off.

The tip above re: not pulling the seat cover and just working the two 8mm hex headrest frame bolts out from between the cushion and the seat frame really saves a lot of time, particularly on the passengers side. Use a ratcheting end wrench and it's a snap. Aside from fishing out the zipper ends, the biggest tussle is getting off the finisher plate that goes betweent the headrest uprights.

Thanks all for the tips & links!

Good job. The damm zippers are the hardest part of the job.

great idea, unless an accident happens and your backseat passengers snap their neck because there's no headrest.

when i had the 2 door, i always kept them out, but in the jeep so i could put them back in if i had passengers since the 2 door's were removable. the 4 door's headrests havent bothered me so far.

to each his own, just my .02

Life's hard. It's harder if you're stupid.

Virtually no one rides back there. I've already had one $2,500 fender bender because I couldn't see out the back of the bloody thing.
