Considering taking off the or-fab carrier...

I'm really considering taking off the or-fab tire carrier, selling it and the spare, and just relocating the license plate to a tramp stamp. I'm getting tired of not being able to see out the back and having to move the tire carrier every time to get into the tailgate. I know I have to patch the hole somehow (probably just a plug from ace hardware). What do y'all think? Can anyone see pros or cons to this? I'm thinking that the weight savings would be great! Anyone else regretting mods they've done? LOL

I have had the OR Fab Carrier on for about a year holding my 35 and I don't find it difficult to see out back. There are probably other carriers that may lower the spare a tad to aid in rear view.

One mod I did regret was 33's and sold them nearly brand new for 35's.

Just wait until you get tired of the 35's and got to 37's(Took me 4 months and less than 5k miles.)

The visibility out the back with the spare tire removed and headrests pulled out is great. I would find it very hard to put a spare back on while driving around town. My buddy has a rear view camera in his, but he has been thinking about pulling his spare as well for added visibility

For those of you with a rear view camera, did you just wire it into the stock nav unit?

I'm really thinking about this idea. My wife told me that it wouldn't look right with the plugs over the holes, so I don't know if this is a go or not yet. I sure do like desert snake's rotopax/license plate mount though!

My buddy installed a mygig lockpick to be able to hookup a rear camera to his OEM Navigation unit.

I just put a camera on mine and it worked great......then I decided to go to 40's so I completely removed the tire carrier and had the rear pannels and tail gate re-done. Doing a camera is a cheaper option than re-designing the whole rear-end.

Did it stay on continually? Looks like it'd replace a rear view mirror

It is on when the ignition is on. I can turn the monitor off with the ignition on if I need to but it doesn't bother me and works just like a rearview mirror. That monitor has an auto dim feature so it works well.
