gas fumes while wheeling, problem?

OK, so, I was out in Big Bend National Park for Spring Break and was wheeling my JK. It was about 99 degrees outside and the trail was rough. I smelt strong gas fumes once it got this hot and I had been offroading a while...Mind you, it did NOT smell like raw gas, it was clearly fumes. It seemed to be the strongest by the EVAP cannister and by the fuel filler cap...It did NOT smell on the other side of the Jeep very much by comparison...This also happened to me once last year in the same area...

Now it so happens, that the heat was followed by an incredible drop in temperatures and I had a chance to run the same trail again with it 39 degrees outside, and I got NO fumes at all...

These are the only two times I have ever smelled fumes on the Jeep, never any other time, and I have wheeled it quite a bit more than just that...

The dealer is not going to be able to recreate the problem, because I cannot...even with it over 100 here last summer...

Anybody have any ideas similar experiences with this? I would love to hear thoughts, and if it is a problem...
