Clearly they don't know the 4WD system they chose...

From Tire Rack's website:

http://www.tirerack.com/index_w.jsp

They seem to be misinformed.

It does not matter how many wheels are spining if you do not have traction.

x2 ... .and read the entire thing OP

4WD, ABS, traction control. Are they enough for winter driving? Only if you've got the right tires.

These systems are designed to manipulate or limit a vehicle's acceleration, braking and cornering capabilities based on the traction provided by its tires.

All the power in the world won't do you any good if you can't get it to the ground.

4WD can help you in winter, but once you lose traction all you can do is hold on and hope for the best.

I think you mean it's just not stuck in neutral yet because the t-case linkage bushing hasn't failed.

Our WJ is a perfect example of this...ours is an '04 with the 4.0L and the 242 Selec-Trac t-case. Came with a brand new set of all seasons when we bought it. These things blew...managed to spin all four of them in snow. Towards the end of their life, they were downright dangerous...hydroplaned like crazy. This past summer we bought a set of Cooper Discoverer ATRs, in 245/70 instead of 225/75 like the all seasons. Granted, I haven't pushed their limit yet, but night and day difference from the old tires. When we had snow, only needed 4WD a handful of times, mainly when climbing a grade.
