2012 JK comments

We recently upgraded my wife's TJ for a new 2dr JK. Some observations:

TJ 2003 2dr Sport: Soft top, NV3550 manual, 4.0, 3.73, Rear D44, 31inch BFG AT's

JK 2012 2dr Sport: Hard top, 6 spd Manual trans, 3.6, 3.73, Rear D44, 32inch stock minivan tires

It's hard to put into words how low the gearing feels in the new JK when compared to the older TJ. 33's would be no problem at all. One of my previous jeeps was a YJ w/ AX5 manual, 258 six and 4.56 gears. Seat of the pants comparison would be hard to notice a difference gearing / crawl speed

The only possible downside I see is the JK clutch feel is too light for either my or my wife's preference

2008 4dr upgraded to a Hemi....With a 4x4 truck attached

2012 Sport S. 2dr hardtop, 3.73 manual trans

I went from a 2004 TJ with 3:73 gears and the 4 sp auto. It was sitting on 33" GY Duratracks. My 2011 JKU has the same gears and transmission with 35" KM2's and it's way more peppier than the old TJ.

I still think that, for various reasons, the 4.0 was the best engine ever put in a Jeep. That said, I am very impressed with the 3.6 in my wife's new '12. It has (small) V8 power, and even with the stock 3.21s (5-speed auto) it turns the 285/70R17s without any problems. It's WAY faster than my '11 Rubicon with 35s and 5.13s (standard trans).

So the on-road performance is great. I have yet to 'wheel it - the jury is still out on that!

1997 TJ with LOTS of stuff.
2011 2DR Rubicon with stuff.
2012 JK8 with some stuff.
