Power top for the JK

Found this:
Considering how long the Jeep Wrangler has been in production, we're surprised that nobody thought of this sooner. The Jeep enthusiasts at Omix-Ada Inc. have designed what they're calling the world's first power folding soft top kit for the beloved Wrangler, which can be fitted to any 2007-2012 model year four-door model. (The company says a kit for the two-door Wrangler is expected to arrive later in 2012.)

The Rugged Ridge package comes complete with a vinyl top, power top frame, hydraulics, wiring harness and installation pack, and the top itself includes a zip-out, removable, tinted rear window. Omix-Ada says the whole kit comes ready to install with "no fuss or mess."

We can't help but notice that the top looks sort of flimsy during operation, but nevertheless, it's a neat aftermarket tweak to one of the most iconic off-roaders ever to grace our roads (and trails). We're not sure how well the hardcore purists will receive something like this, but there are plenty of people buying four-door Wranglers as lifestyle vehicles, too. Check out a pair of videos after the jump showing the power folding top in action, along with Omix-Ada's press release

It might not be a bad idea for the 4 door folks but I don't know if I'd rush out and get one asap.

Wow that actually looks like it will work pretty decently.

But I'd never spend that kinda money on a soft top. I'd absolutely buy a hard top first.

That's what I was thinking (or at least that feeling of "that doesn't seem right"). Personally, when I'm on the trail, I don't want to be sitting out in the sun all day so I'll leave the top on however I'll take off the half doors and the side panels and be good with that.

There was one create for the TJ as well, so this is not the first. It just never took off. Will be interesting with all the soccer mom crowd if this one will do better on the JK.

My thought is the JK has too many damn electronics on it to go wrong as it is. This just adds to that number.

If you're gonna correct a dude's post, at least follow through and correct the whole thing

Either way, a power top on a Wrangler is an abomination.

I'm no "soccer mom" but that is pretty cool...not $5k cool but mechanically interesting. I can see the market for it with the mall-crawler crowd or perhaps a Jeeper who has a handicap. My concern would be long term reliability and seal-ability. With the way most soft tops leak I dont see how this would any different.

Good idea. Most JK owners are of the family/soccer mom variety but if I had $5,000 this would not be on my short list.

Fucking stupid!

I enjoy watching hotties and soccer moms standing on their seats folding their Jeep tops up or down, the way it was meant to be.

Wait, wait, wait... You mean to tell me that there are actually hot soccer moms out there that not only know their roof can come off/fold down, but they actually do it? And they drive around like that? They don't leave the roof on and pump the A/C like it's a Hyundai Tucson? Well how about that...
