Non-coded ignition key....

Howdy!!! Just out of curiousity, what happens should one attempt to start the JK with a replacement non-coded ignition key? I had one made to stash under the vehicle in the event one and/or both of my "coded" keys are locked inside the vehicle.

What some people have done with Ford keys (not sure about Chrysler) is get some generic copies made and then take one of the good immobilizer keys and epoxy it a few inches away from the switch in the column so the immobilizer is always defeated and any normal key will work.

Just out of curiosity... Why didn't you just try the key you had made to see what happens?

Why don't you just buy a key like this
http://www.allthingsjeep.com/rock-key-transponder.html

and use the two keys you have to program it per the owners manual? No more worries.

Because it's not coded and he didn't want to take the chance.

I was concerned the JK's electronics might have gone into a lock-out mode.
