So, a couple years ago I hear about this new wide screen high definition camera that had recently hit the market and is getting rave reviews - The GoPro HD. Immediately I had to have one to tape all my trails and adventures with my family.
When I got it, I took it out of the box and my son, 6 a the time, picks it up and sets it lens-down on the granite counter top putting a tiny chip in the lens.
I tried to work something out with GoPro to get it swapped out or have the lens fixed and nothing. They offered a 40% discount on a new one, but I had no idea if it was even worth having $500 invested in one camera so I passed. I also tried to search for any company that was offering a replacement lens. No luck there either. So, it sat in a box and I never bothered with it.
Two years later I decided to use it on a trip to Sedona and even with the blurry spot in view it was great.
Again I looked around online and stumbled onto a thread here on JKO with a remote control car while the driver was using a GoPro camera to drive it around viewing the video remotely. I looked on his build thread and there it was, a company he used that has a couple replacement lenses for the GoPro.
I sent it in to ragecams.com and a week later it was back good as new.
If any of you take pictures or video, you need one of these. There are a couple vendors here that sell them. They're worth it. Just be careful with it when you take it out of the shell.
Couple videos. One before and two from this last weekend.
