JK vs. TJ Rubicon pricing

Just for grins I did a search on '04 to '06 Rubicons. I was pretty surprised to see the prices that people are asking for the TJ Rubicons. They are within 10% or as much as the JK Rubicons.

You got me thinking. I did some research.

I have a TJ Rubi for sale. (Did I inspire this thread?)

I live in NC. I did a seacrh for 04-06 Rubicons within 100 miles of my zip with less than 100k miles.

19 for sale. Average ASKING price is $19,107

07 -09 Rubicons with less than 100k miles netted 9 2 door (tried to keep it as equal as possible) Rubicons with an average asking price of $23,867.

That comes about to be about a 25% difference in my area.

A Jeep is a Jeep, be it TJ or JK. There will always be a market and their resale will always be high.

Now imagine what those values will be if the next version of the wrangler gets turned into a glorified grand cherokee. Someone posted an article where the lead designer said they "would -try- to maintain the removeable top and doors." Hopefully that is not a sign of something horrible, but who knows.

All the old JK/TJ/YJ/CJ values will skyrocket if the new wrangler models change it too much.

No, you didn't inspire it. I started out looking for a TJ Rubicon when I bought my JK. I saw a Rubicon Brute on Saturday when I was out in my '65 and I was just curious about pricing.

You're right about the prices except when it comes to low mileage TJ's (under 40k miles), then the prices seem to be in the low 20's.

I have an ad in the For Sale section so I'm not trying to pimp my Jeep out here, but mine has 47k miles and I have it listed for $18.5k. And all I'm getting are lowball offers and ridiculous trade requests.

It hasn't been that long. It will sell. The more you modify a vehicle, the more you narrow your market. I'm patient. I know the right buyer will come along.

More than I paid for mine with 62 miles on it. Good grief!

I was looking for 23-25k for mine, now I didn't try very hard but not too much interest.

My buddy danny picked up a 05 Rubi, with 65k on it for $15k about 8months back.

Sent from my mind using telekynesis!

I think this thing is finally coming together. Still Needed: drive shafts, frame mount rails...then done son! For a while...

I paid $16750 for my 08 in April of 09 and I believe it is probably worth more than that now. Pretty crazy!

Our WK on the other hand...lmao!

we were originally looking at LJ's because they were more in my price range, or so I thought. 22k at the dealer in Redlands, and I picked up my 08 JKU for 25k. I did have a sweet connection for my used JK, but still, not much difference. I really do like what you can do to the LJ's steering with Gen right stuff though.

Jeep Wranglers are doing well at the Dallas Auction. In 09 I bought my 08 with 15K miles for $17K. Now they are bring $23K

Bear in mind that the used market, especially for trucks & SUVs is going to be severely restricted through about 2014 due to slack of supply. '08 through '10 were poor sales years and thus a lot less product will cycle through. If you're planning on trading for a 2012 JK don't get screwed on your trade, after he low-balls you the dealer will turn around and hit a home run on resale.

WRT TJ/LJ, they were sold in very large numbers so if you shop around you can find the right one for you. SWB Jeeps have always commanded a premium on the used market, so don't expect them to be priced the same as a car of the same model year, or even a truck. The LJ Unlimited is the modern day CJ8 Scrambler and will command a premium in any decent shape.

Last summer the local dealer took an '09 Rubicon Unlimited in trade with 8500 miles on it. Identical to mine. They had it on the lot for more than it sold for new, but they took $28k to move it.

I paid 18 for my Jk and sold it for 21 lol
