Lost key.......again!!!

Howdy and !!! Well, I lost my second key down into the defrost/dash abyss, and, you'd think the first time would've been a good lesson, "Don't place your keys on the dash dumb ass!"

Now, a locksmith is going to require a house call to make two (2) more---that's going to hurt $$$.

I've attempted to get my hand(s) into the dash area but it's just too damn tight. Any ideas on how to retrieve those keys without disassembling the dash? Thanks for any input!!!

Lock smith is probably not going to be able to get the keys coded since both are gone. Sounds like a wrecker to the dealer. It's a miserable abyss when you start pulling the dash, you could flip the windshield down and try looking down the gap and see if you can at least spot them.

Depends on where you dropped the key's but if its in the center, the dash doesn't come apart too hard actually...the top piece (above the radio) has to come off first if i recall. Lift on the part closest to the front of the Jeep and slide forward and it should come off, it just has 2 spring clips holding it in. the whole front of the dash is one piece and pops off as its just held by spring clips as well. Just be careful if you do this not to pry on plastic...take your time and work it back and fourth, don't force it or you risk breaking it... also...beware the spring clips...they're a bitch to find or order from chrysler if you break one or lose one....(ask me how i know). the last piece is the lower dash panel, comes off pretty much the same way...that should give you some access to be able to search around... you might look around toward the shifter and under that plastic too...i dropped a screw when i had the dash apart and it ended up there. Was a PITA to get back but i found it finally... I know you said you didn't want to pull the dash apart but it'll save you some $$$ and a trip to the dealer if you can find your key(s). GL

Take a copy of your registration to the dealer and get a new one to get in, then dig that puppy out. The dash is not that bad to get it out. Maybe pop the top piece, then use a magnetic stick to get it?

Howdy and !!! I just retrieved both keys using a flexible bronchoscope passed through the defrost vents. I'm making a BIG note to be placed below the mirror, "NO KEYS ON DASH!!!" Thanks one and all for your suggestions. Shiner Oktoberfest

FWIW idk about the newer JKs but all the ones I've been in you can leave the key in the ignition and just pull it half way out. It'll stay there and won't ding or anything. Glad you got your keys back!

I've got some of those long, narrow rubber mats (new from Herradura Anejo Tequila) one can find in a bar that'll fit perfect atop the dash and it looks pretty slick too.

Now would be a good time to order a couple of extra keys, since you now have two working keys.

Note: You must have two working keys to program additional keys. Easy-to-follow directions are in your owner's manual.

Very inexpensive to order additional chip keys here:
