Alright, as I type this my butt sits in Afghanistan waiting to come home. I'm a Navy Reservist, however, I'm here as a contractor performing some tasks alongside some of the most awesome people out there, U.S. Marines.
I digress. Ever since I bought a used lifted TJ I have been hooked, sold it, bought my 2010 and got to work on it. I've had a bug ever since and I want to go in a completely different direction.
I'm looking for a 2007-2012 JK "on the cheap", I do not want:
- the engine
- the suspension
- the wheels/tires/spare
- the front/rear bumpers
- the front D30 (unless it comes with the D44)
- the seats
- the carpet
- the hood
This does not mean I WANT to buy a Jeep and part it out, I'd prefer not to (too much hassle). The only thing that comes to mind is a salvage yard, but who knows what else would be gutted from it by the time I purchase it.
I do not plan on owning two Jeeps, so I'm selling my JK (I'll attach link to the post later).
The "Plan" - River Raider is very inspiring, very very inspiring. Huge fan of the end results of their projects. I'm a 2-dr fan though I do not hate 4-drs like some do on here. I do not have a REAL need to go "insane" with D60's, LED light bars, if that's what you are salivating in anticipation for (though they are pretty shweet):
2-Door (4-Door conversion to RROR's RT)
5.7L HEMI or RIPP (I understand the two are VERY different, read above as to what I am looking for)
Front/Rear D44 with 5.13's
Re-paint to a flat sand or gunmetal color
PSC or RROR armor/bumpers
A bunch of other ideas floating around, but those are the main ones.
I'd like to see this new build get off it's feet, but I need to a) sell my Jeep and b) be home to get to putting the pieces together. IF I do not sell my JK, which is a good possibility, I will likely go with the RIPP and axle/gear swap and call it a day.
If anyone knows where I should start searching besides Craigslist, Backpage, Ebay, JKO, etc., that info would be appreciated. Especially local salvage yards (AZ or SC/GA).
(Edit: cleared up some grammatical errors.)
