Just Bought a JK, couple questions

I just bought a 2007 JK. I think is't called a Sahara. Anyway, it's got 28000 miles on it, I have put about 3000 miles on it since I bought it. the previous owner is the kind of guy that takes really good care of his vehicles and he's an honest guy. I checked the oil today and found it was 3 1/2 quarts low on oil. WTF? Are these things known to use oil? It has big tires on it but geez.
I'm a little worried now.

Here's a picture.

A good thing to do whenever you buy a used vehicle is to go get it serviced by YOUR shop or by yourself as soon after taking ownership as you can. This way you know without a shadow of a doubt when the service was done and who did it.

My advice is to change the oil and filter and then keep an eye on the level and report back how much oil it has used in how many miles.

That looks the Jeep that one dude threw a rod in by revving it too much too long. If so the block is cracked. After a new engine you should be fine.

Just kidding dude. Nope to my knowledge they don't burn oil fast. Probably just overlooked it before he sold it. Welcome to JKO. Beware of Dr. Dirty, Chris Hansen, Karnuvore, JKristie, awe fuck it. Beware of everyone here besides me. I'm the nice guy.

you might want to check your compression and listen for any knocking noises.

That's a fine looking JK. Welcome to the forum and I hope your oil just was neglected and won't be a continuing problem.

Thanks for the input guys. I like the jeep. I'll change the oil and monitor it closer. Anyone know what gear ratio this thing has? I'm thinking about re gearing it. The big tires makes it kind of a dog on the freeway.

you should:

1. talk to the guy you bought the jeep from. he may have re-geared already, maybe not the right gearing.
2. use the forum search for stock sahara gearing.

If the gears have not already been changed..

Click this link..

http://www.jeep.com/wccsapp/universa...ull&category=U

Enter the info, in the comments section ask for a build sheet for your recently purchased Jeep.. include VIN number. Takes 2 or 3 days but they will email you back the build sheet for your Jeep.

Welcome to JKO. My JK sometimes will be a quart or 2 low on oil. Seems to be random and I can't figure it out so I keep a pretty close eye on it.

Ya, i bought a Jeep. It's really for my wife to use as a daily driver but it's cool looking so I have been driving it to work to keep the miles off my Dodge.

I've always been a Toyota guy. this is what I wheel.
