I've heard the stories

But thought it was all bull shit. How the hell could that happen? Apparently it can. Was deep in a mud hole, got stuck, tried to put it in reverse. Now the bitch aint goin no where. Still having a hard time wrappin my head around it. Not like theres a huge amount of room between your clutch and your flywheel when you push in the clutch peddle. Anyway, live and learn.

Been thinkin about a new spec clutch for awhile any way.

theres enough room for gritty/muddy water to get in there though.

That was the #1 reason I went with an auto over a manual.

Just kept thinking WWTD, WWTD. lol

Only have around 33K on it but it has been kinda wishy washy for a while now any way. Got hooked up with http://www.4x4trailgear.com/index.php?route=common/home

So I'm sure I'll get taken care of. Think I'm going to go with the spec 2+.

So Tim, you have a manual or a stick?

Question for any one, could dirt or some mud get in there and cause the through out bearing to make that ticking sound in first gear just driving up the street? The only way to get it to stop is to push the clutch in, it does not do it in any other gear. Mine does this now and I have had it replaced once already ? Just wanting to know if there is any way to clean it out. Thanks guys.

Yeah, thats probably your throwout bearing. You can also get the creek when you depress the pedal - which is usually the fork.

The only way you can clean and grease it it to pull the trans.

I wouldn't touch it if it's still under warranty. Just take it in while you still can.

Clear water you most likely will be ok, maybe some slippage, strange noises and steam...it's the muddy water with all the dirt and crap that gets in there.

Go Play Outside.

Send a message via AIM to armedsks

Helps if your in 4L. If you stall , you do not need to use the clutch in 4L it will start in 4L with no clutch.

Back in the day when I still had my CJ-5, we always bought Borg & Beck style pressure plates (the 3 finger design) because using a standard diaphram style pressure plate would pack with mud whenever you went into a deep mud hole. The fingers would get held up and your clutch would not get any pressure. You couldn't go anywhere as it was like having the clutch depressed. With the 3 finger design of the Borg & Beck pressure plate mud was never a problem.

my own rule of thumb I developed for myself was that if the mud/water was rocker deep, stay off the clutch, no matter what.

2011 JK, made the year before we all die, warranty be damned.
