Another Odd Thought, Paint the top of a hardtop white

I wonder if your were to paint the top of a hardtop white. Like on a mini or Land Rover if it would help with interior heat that much. Or, if you don't like that look. Since most people can't see the top of a lifted Jeep anyway, what if you painted most of the top white? i.e. about 2" away from the edges.

Just another odd thought brought to you by RoachJeep

Already been done. I think it was Jack Tuttle who did it. He has a white Jeep, so it looked just like the new Sahara style tops.

Looked pretty good, IMO.

I wasn't thinking the entire top like the new Saharas. Just the TOP of the top. So that the bottom is still black.

It's been done and the owners claimed good results.

Some liked it..

had my hot head headliners in since last spring and haven't really thought about the heat too much since then. Made a big difference in the south Texas heat this past summer.

Could use the same surface paint that the boating industry uses; flexable and really durable.

Mine will be painted before the summer... I have a red 4 door and I am leaving the rest of the top black.

Mine is done pretty much to the way that you describe, it stops at the top 45 at the top and at the seam at the rear. So you can't tell from the sides or rear, you can tell from the front if you are tall enough to see. It made over a 37 degree difference on aveage measured with a fluke infa red temp gun. I'm still on the fence about one of the interior head liners to help make it quieter as the noise on the long commutes seem to drain the energy out of you. But I'm really glad I did it as it made a huge freaking difference. Oh and the temps were measured on the inside surface over the rear seat directly in the middle. Do a google image search for my user name and the photos should come up.
