I have a winch mounted to the top of my bumper. And I did the grill mod about 3 years ago.

I never understood worrying about cooling, I have had no issues whatsoever.

The JK engine runs hot, it was designed to run hot. Sucks, but thats the way it is. The main thing to do if you are worried about engine temps is vent the hood in some way or buy an expensive aftermarket hood.

The winch and grill mod shouldn't change things that drastically unless you use some sort of thick aluminum for the grill mod. I used the plasticky gutter guard. Cheap, easy, and functional. And the rest of the front of the JK is plastic so why shouldn't the grill grates be plastic as well?

Stock gauge is pretty much useless. It's pretty much set to read dead in the middle unless it's really getting warm. I think normal operating temp is in the 210-220ish range? Which is warm in general. But it's happy there, less emissions

my winch is up top too
