Tow car on dolly with JK?

Hey all, my buddy asked me if i can tow his integra to Jersey from east CT. so it can be shipped to Hawaii and i was hoping to get some input.

I have a v8 ZJ that would be better off towing it but it is in need of some front axle work, so the tow vehicle will most likely be my 08 rubicon 2dr with 6 speed.

Do yall think that would be too rough on my clutch and motor? especially in the traffic i will surely encounter?
I'm not too overly worried about gas milage as he is going to fund it, but i also dont want him to break the bank paying me gas money.

Any other thoughts would also be greatly appreciated, thanks

How good of a friend is it? If it's a really good friend, I'd probably do it. I wouldn't go very fast and I'd be pretty easy on it. If it's an "okay friend", thats why they rent pickup trucks. If he can pay to get it shipped to Hawaii and pay you for fuel, he can rent a pickup truck imo.

I've flat towed a YJ for 30miles or so, it was alright but I was extremely easy on it (blown radiator on the trail, we were on tree savers, but anyway). If it wasn't an amazing friend, I wouldn't do it. It's not a tow vehicle to me.

youll be fine. i towed my 65' cj5 from green bay, wi to northern michigan, 6 hours. you wont set any landspead records but youll make it there fine. i have an auto. i plan on towing the cj back home to kansas next month when i move. that will be a slow trip

Definitely depends on how good of a friend he is. Although, I know that I would not want to be in front of you in traffic. Pulling is not going to the the issue, it is those sudden stops that is going to be interesting.

I towed my Honda Civic (at the time) on a full car trailer with my ZJ (then) with the 4.0 from Brownsville, Texas to NYC...2,000 miles ONE WAY. Stock gears, axles, etc. No issues. Go ahead and pull him to CT.

I cant imagine that thing would weigh too much.
He isnt my best friend by any means, but we went to school together for the last year.
For money, i think it would be cheaper to just pay me gas, because he would have to rent a truck and dolly plus fuel for the truck. But I also dont have any idea how much all that would be.

I towed a car on one of those dollys with my 09 Sahara just take it easy and itll do fine. I actually got better MPG towing the car than towing just the dolly according to the dash. I guess it was like somebody was drafting me lol

towing with a 6spd should be fine. the auto i would worry about. i have a rubi auto, so unless it had 4.10 or lower with the auto, i wouldnt recommend it personally. with the 6spd, though, its pretty easy. just pick the gear it pulls in.

i had a 4.0 ZJ with 33's and 4.56... i pulled anything and everything with it. it never complained. its a powerhouse. the JK on the other hand. the most overloaded i ever ran it, i had a mid 90's pontiac grand prix 4dr on a 16' trailer. 35-40mph max speed. it was too much weight for it.

i think with the tow dolly, fwd car (around 2600lbs......... guessing with google) plus weight of dolly, that should be under the 3500lb max. i think you should be fine.

I think i'm probly gonna go ahead and just do it and see what happens.
Also have some friends a little further down that i havent seen in years. maybe even a chance to try a real philly cheesesteak.

I agree with the zj being a powerhouse, mine pulled everything including a 63 ford f-100 on an 18' trailer...without trailer brakes. I could barely tell it was back there till it was time to stop and she didnt want to.

I don't know, the combo has got to weigh more than 2500lbs (2dr tow rating). If you were (God forbid) to have an accident I think your ins. co. might balk at the claim.

The max tow rating for a two-door with the tow package is 2000lbs. You will surely be over that. As a few others have stated, sudden stops would be the biggest risk factor from a liability standpoint. Wear and tear on your Jeep should be a consideration as well. I wouldn't do it. My $.02.
