I need to get a rear bumper with a tire carrier. The tailgate on my 2008 Rubicon is twisting from the weight of the tire. I'm looking at the Hooke Road Different Trail bumpers at Amazon. Has anyone here bought them, and what did you like or dislike about them. You have to like the price. The bumpers are at Amazon, obviously. Just search on Hooke Wrangler JK bumpers. I can't post links yet. This is my first post.
Many have tried these Chinese goods. What I've found is that it's cheap steel, cheap engineering, cheap welding, cheap powdercoating, and cheap packaging.
If you want cheap Chinese stuff that will not last, then these are perfect, but in the long run you're better off to go with something of some quality from a company that's trustworthy. Buy once, cry once.
Never, ever have I said to myself, man I wish I'd bought a lower-quality *anything*.
Thanks for your reminders that you get what you pay for. The price is tempting. But, then I guess you pay the price again when things fail, or don't fit right.
I have found with these cheap Chinese bumpers that they rust like crazy. I repainted a friend's bumper striped it down to bare metal etched primed it and painted it with an epoxy paint. Less than 2 months the paint had started to bubble.
I have installed a few EAG bumpers (customer supplied) and they appear to be 1/8" thick as opposed to most quality winch bumpers which are a minimum 3/16 , Hooke road could be the same.
