Hey guys, the other day I noticed a leak on the bell housing where the transmission mounts to the engine. I read up and looked into it some more, suspected it was the upper oil pan gasket, I replaced it with a new gasket the other day, cleaned everything up, and it's still there!
There doesn't seem to be any oil coming down to that spot, rather it's coming from between the bell housing and the dust cover. I have no clue at this point and am looking for some suggestions on where I should look next before I go to a shop.
Below I have attached pictures of the bell housing and as far up as I can see to the sides. Also the valve covers which don't seem to be leaking and this random spot that I saw a little "wetness" around.
It's pretty hard to make heads or tails out of the pics... maybe it's just me.
Looks like maybe there's a bit of oil in different places.... You might have to clean it up a bit to figure out what's "new".
Beyond that, I've found that whatever fluid I might be leaking is the one that gets low.... :wink2:
If it's truly coming from between the engine and transmission then the rear main seal is the #1 likely culprit. But possibly the front seal of the trans? or if it's a manual, could be the trans or maybe even the clutch slave.
I'd keep checking the fluids until I figured out which on was getting low. Beyond that, you could buy a cheap UV dye leak detector kit. you'll just want to check it BEFORE the UV dye gets everywhere... Maybe add the dye, and start it but don't drive it. I've found that with leaks driving it tends to fling the fluids all over the place under there, making it harder to tell.
I have a 2007 Jeep jk with automatic transmission btw, anyways, I diagnosed the leak further by cleaning everything and with the process of elimination on what I already replaced [emoji23], I found out it was the intake manifold gaskets. Looked further into it and it's not a job I want to tackle due to the lack of information out there and how long it could potentially take me. Took it to my mechanic, he confirmed the issue. He will be replacing both manifold gaskets, thermostat (my choice as I know it was right there too), and coolant (cause you have to) for $460 total. I ended up going with that for the my convenience. Thanks guys

you haven't id'ed the tranny , engine , year or anything.
With that in mind , it would be highly prudent for you to search this forum for "appropriate antifreeze for 20## Jeep JK"
or
" what is worse , casting sand in my Jeep coolant or using OAT instead of HOAT" .
Youll be grateful you remind your mechanic of this
