Talking bolt pattern

Will wheels on a 2017 Jeep Wrangler JK fit the bolt pattern on a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0?

Yes if you swap in a set of jk rubi 44 axles. Otherwise no. Or yes if you buy some adaptors.

@coilrod nailed-it ; adapters will convert the lug pattern as well as send the backspacing out to where it won't look silly OR get some JK/JKU axles to swap on your mid 90s XJ.
The guy from ORFab that built the XJ w/ the Ferrari color scheme and /or the Crusader Jeep XJ from JCR would be good references for you .

you would have to go from a 5 on 4.5 to a 5 on 5 lug pattern.. should still be the same size wheel stud..
adapters are your only shot.
