Order lead time question

Hi everyone. Soon to be JKU owner here. I am having trouble finding exactly what I want locally and having a dealer locate and get the vehicle is just a bit too much $. I was presented with the option to order directly from the factory and the final cost would be right in line with my budget. I was told that it would be a 6-8 week lead time if doing so. I will be paying cash and in full at the time of ordering and the salesman said that it may be a little quicker in that case.

I would like to hear from anyone who has ordered directly from the factory like this. Let me know your experiences and lead times and anything you would like to share. Thanks in advance.

I ordered mine. I think it took around 8 weeks. As far as the order process goes, it doesn't matter how you plan on paying whether cash or financing. Paying cash does not speed up the order process.

Thanks. I figured it was just a salesman's pitch to tell me that paying in full would speed up the process.

I would not pay in full when placing the order. I would put the minimum down. Some dealers are thieves, and would hold you over a barrel, because they already have your cash accruing interest while the vehicle is in process, and will keep it as long as they possibly can if there is a problem.

If I remember correctly, I put a $200 deposit when I placed my order for my Rubicon

$500 when I ordered my Cherokee.

Thanks. I will keep that in mind if I end up going that route. It just amazes me that placing a new order from scratch is cheaper out the door than getting an existing vehicle that is ~300 miles away.

Full cash down payment? Ha! Tell that guy to fuck off. 1K, ok, that's reasonable for ordering a vehicle. That being said, they won't have any problem selling a Wrangler even if you walk away, so even that is really unnecessary.

Wait time depends on your location as well. I've ordered 2 and they both were ready for me to pick up inside 5 weeks from the day the dealer put the order in. I'm in Toledo so travel time was/is minimal. 6-8 weeks seems about right for other parts of the country.

Also, they get credit for the additional vehicle that applies to their volume bonus along with not having to pay tax or interest. They should throw you in some service since technically you are helping them out.
