Shifter slipping out of gear

Recently having issue with gear not fully engaging (only on 2nd and 4th and mostly when its cold out). I believe it has something to do with the inner shift boot because when I unclipped the inner boot it shifts just fine but the problem with that is the center console gets too hot and producing quite a bit of noise from not having the inner boot sealed. I think that the rubber boot is not letting the gear fully engage. I've read quite a bit about this issue and it seems like an ongoing problem for Jeep. Anyways, any suggestions on possibly a better inner boot version for a replacement or how I can modify the current boot to stop from interfering with shifting properly? Thanks.

it's a complete guess but a slightly educated one , ManilaRick ( I recall your recent shock absorber thread) ;
maybe the 1"-2" body lift your Jeep has is resulting in interference or some damage to inner boot or whatever shifter extension may/may not be on it ?

There's a wealth of info on internet about 2doors with body lifts and the stuff folks have done or experienced w this setup.
I mention because even tho you have good description of what's going on with your Jeep, you don't give much detail on the setup and add-ons so it's tough to know things like what I presuppose about the body lift ...include a few details goes miles towards getting assistance that's useful !

There's even info on BLs here on jkowners but not many people consider it proper etiquette on JKs unless used in conjunction with a mild lift

hope that helps

j3ff3ry_j33p thank you for the response and the info link, now it is making more sense to me. I'm currently stationed overseas so kind of hard to find good garage that I can have the Jeep checked at. Apologize for the lack of details on my part, learning a little bit at a time about the Jeep as these issues pop up. Thanks again.
