Painted Fender Flares?

Has anyone tried to paint the stock X fender flares?

How do you think they would look?

If a painted hard top looks good i think they would also look good?

I suppose it would look ok if you like the monotone look.

I think and I don't remember for sure but the Sahara fenders are smooth so they appear to be sheet metal. The stock fenders have a little texture to them. Course maybe it is just a pile of paint to make the fender stronger.

I wonder if the paint is flexible after it dries? Otherwise its gonna crack like a mud lake in the heat wave of summer.

good points, I always liked the black fender flares because it brings contrast to the vehile(jeep, tacoma, tundra, etc etc) but the sahara look is growing in me

I drove on a few gravel roads this summer and you can see where the gravel kicked up onto the back fenders. It's not too noticeable on the black, but may chip up painted fenders.

But if you want the ammor all look with out the mess or fading you can put a couple coats of Krylon fusion on them. I did that with my front bumper when I stubbied it and it looks good. Wipe them off with Denatured alcohol then spray. The bumper got soot on it from the massive fire we had out here but you can still compare the shinyness (if thats a word) to the flat of the fenders.

Stock fenders are plastic. The only diference is the coat of paint versus the unfinished look. I personally did not care either way when I got it but now I wish I had the X or Rubi fenders.

BTW Caboose to save time trouble and energy why did you not look at a Sahara? That is one way of telling and being 99% correct at least till more folks paint them or replace the fenders. The only thing needed is either smooth sand them (like if you repainted the top which would be difficult) or leave them alone and clean them up good then paint. Personally I would price brand new painted ones versus going through the trouble.
