Axle U-joint question

ok I had my Jeep in shop yesterday for ball joint replacement, so the mechanic calls and tells me my axle u-joint on passenger side is bad, says it will only bend/flex in one direction. Does that make any sense? Does not seem possible to me that the flexing one way would lock up.

If its out it may apear that it wont move but frozen up due to wear it will move under the weight of the Jeep. It should move by hand even if it's stiff, Your mechanic saved you some coin. If he put it back in and it went your new balljoints may have suffered.

If he was aiming down the sights correctly and had plenty of practice rounds under his belt, there would only be one side of this story.

I had him put it back in for now. I didnt want to spend any money on the stock axles I am just going to order the RCV's on Monday. No 4wd till I get the new axles in. I was going to order them in a few weeks anyhow. He couldnt find a replacement u-joint other then from the dealer he said anyhow. I know there is one right? I'll fix them once I upgrade so I have good spares for when someone else breaks theirs

Keep an eye on it. With the new unit bearings the axle is engaged all the time. If the U-joint goes it will eat up the area 4wd or not. It would be better if he took the u-joint out, left the stub shaft in, and plugged the axle tube.

That wouldn't have been fun, I've been running around with only a stub shaft since KOH. I have RCV's sitting in the garage waiting for a home, just need some time.
