tail gate Exhauster

Ok has anyone removed and gotten the exhauster to reseat properly? I removed mine so I could run wiring for a back up camera. Well long of it is I can not get it to properly reseat in the tail gate. I am about to order a new one just to compare. Or is there a trick to getting it to seat in the tail gate properly?

I've had mine on and off more times than I'd like to admit. But it always just pops right back in, usually have to give it a couple of good whacks with my fist to get it to snap on.

I swear when I pulled I tout it was tight against the tail gate. mind you this is a 2014 with 400 miles on it. I popped It off to reach in and run back up cam wires after having them get stuck up by the top hole. I figured it would pop right back in but for some reason it does not appear like it is setting like it was before I pulled it off. It is like the gasket will not seat around the metal on the tail gate. I am just trying to figure out how the rubber is supposed to lock in if at all. It is only about 10 bucks from Quadra Tec so I will just get one for comparison.
