Help! Metallic Tinging Noise from T-Case area

I have a 2012 Sport w/ 8500 miles on it. I took it out and got stuck in some sand up to the frame. After getting out and getting home I started to notice a small metallic ting coming from around my T-case. It doesn't happen consistently but it is only at low speeds when I am first taking off or slowing down to go over small bumps (~5 mph) but not every time. I was able to recreate it when I was in the garage with the rear wheels jacked up and rotating by hand. It didn't happen every rotation again just sporadically it seemed. A friend was listening but could only get as close as somewhere in the t-case or surrounding area. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do? Any help would be great? Thanks.

How is your Jeep 2 years old with only 8500 miles one it? Damn...

Anyway, to verify the condition of the tcase, drain it and look. At least if you drain it and it comes out clean, you have the peace of mind that it isn't internal in the transfer case itself.

Sand is funny. Has a habit of getting into places that it shouldn't be and acting like an anti-grease, wearing the shit out of your joints and components. Check the driveshafts too.

Thanks. I do that this weekend. I bought it while I was deployed last year through the exchange new car sales on base. It was the last 12 they had on their lots so I picked it up November 2013 with 7 miles on it and got a great price. So I've only had it for 9 months.

I had the same noise at low rpm that drove me crazy for 18 months!
It was the heat shield, above the muffler on my 2013.

I'm fairly certain that it is coming from the transfer case area but I'll have a look at the heat shield thanks.
