What is this on the NP241

What is this thing? Some type of vibration dampener? And do I need it? I look at pictures of other NP241J's and some have it and others don't.


07 JKU, 14 bolt rear/ Teraflex 60 front, Tera Long Arm, King Coilovers, 40" MT/R-Ks, Antirock etc. 430HP LS3 engine swap. Cage and 14 bolt swap thread-

I believe its a harmonic balance that came in some of the transfer cases.

Harmonic balancer, perhaps. I think maybe a counter balance weight to reduce driveline kick/twist in 4lo. It just looks like a big ass hunk of metal suspended in a rubber bushing on a bracket bolted to the case. Is it only attached with the outer bracket?

Dug around on Pirate. It's a vibration damper found on manual NV241OR T-cases...

Just going by what little info I found. It does seem to be hit or miss on which cases got one.

I was wondering the same thing. Mine is a 6 speed don't have that my TJ had a stock one before putting a slip yoke. just a hunk of metal I've never noticed a difference if it even dose anything. my .02

I have a 2007 Grand Cherokee Limited with automatic trans and full time 4 wheel drive and I was wondering what this “thing” was as well.
