Anyone have any experience working with UHMWPE

I'm thinking of doing a belly skid on my 2 door, and would like to save as much weight as possible. Has anyone done a UHMWPE skid backed with aluminum? I'm thinking that 5/8" Plastic and 3/16" Aluminum should be good for it so long as I don't slam hard onto it with the full weight of the vehicle.

Usually it's a UHMW skinned aluminum skid, primarily for how easy rocks grab and gall on aluminum...not quite for strength. From my understanding.

Do you really want a 7/8" thick skid plate under there?

All of our race cars use 1/4" 7075 aluminum and 3/8" UHMW. Very expensive! For a trail rig you can get away with 3/16" 6061 and 3/8" UHMW. You can get the recycled stuff for a lot less.

And that's why I'm asking. I don't have any experience with this stuff, just seen a few people running it. But I didn't know what kind of thickness they had. Is there any difference in the recycled stuff and the "virgin?"
