I was playing around on the Mopar website earlier and saw under parts and accessories sub category 2.8L Diesel, 3.0L Gas, and 3.6L.... Did they accidentally jump the gun and put the information for the 2015 Wrangler on the website? I know that Chrysler was working on a 3.2L Pentastar but a 3.0L is news to me. It's not an export model either because Europe and elsewhere gets the 3.6L engine. Anyways, Here's the link and you can see for yourself...
Okay I found some info on the 3.0L.... "The normally aspirated, smaller-displacement Pentastar Six developed to avoid European engine-size-based taxes, with just under 3 liters of displacement (e.g. 2.997 liters / 2997 cc), is being made."
"The block is different from the 3.2 and 3.6 blocks; it even stronger, with substantial passage differences, and even closer tolerances than the 3.6 and 3.2"
Makes sense. In my eyes the a 200bhp wrangler would be fine. Although they would have to charge less for it. I would think the tigershark is an even better idea as the engine does cost less to make.
Dont think they are making for europe, there is no volume for chrysler and they have the diesel. Large gas engines are basically specially order and if you can do that generally you ca afford the biggest.
The new engine is rated at 230 horsepower at 6,350rpm, with peak torque of 210 lb-ft at 4,400 rpm. The 3.2, in comparison, 271 hp and 239 lb-ft.
The primary purpose of the 3.0 liter V6 is to avoid displacement taxes; in the Europe Union and China, where oil supplies are limited for various reasons including lack of domestic production, vehicles with engines of 3.0 liters and more are penalized with higher taxes. Thus, the new variant was designed to be 2.997 liters, falling below the cutoff.
If you read it closely, it falls under the category, PARTS AND ACCESSORIES. Not intended to say they are selling a Wrangler with the 3.0 in America, just parts/accessories to fix/upgrade the engine. I believe this is intended for European owners of Wranglers.
