detroit locker noise question

I just recently had a full time detroit locker installed along with 4.88 gears. everyhting is awesome so far except almost 80% of the time when i shift from reverse to drive or park to reverse/drive it sounds like the rear end is being smacked with a hammer. im told its normal, but will it always be there?

I literally just picked it up from the shop and its got maybe 40 miles on it so far

You'll always get some noise, but it will be noisiest for the first few hundered miles while it breaks in.

Mine is way quieter now than it was 500 miles ago.

I think this thing is finally coming together. Still Needed: drive shafts, frame mount rails...then done son! For a while...

Mine too, reminds me of the immediate response torque I have available and my old j10, that thing clunked for over 250,000 miles

They sometimes will give a lot pop when splines line back up after a corner. You will feel the vehicle lifts differently when your on and off the gas pedal since it's pulling both wheels all the time. They are tough & will likely never let you down. I ran them front and rear for a long time and they worked awesome!!
