So is it just me, or are there virtually no Black JK Jeepers? I don't see any drivers in my town. Been on four Jeep Jamborees in the last 2 years in the South and did not see any Black participants. As great a vehicle as we have I don't get it.
Just something that has me asking myself why and how this could be? I'd be interested in your take on how this plays in your part of the US or if it applies where you are.
I don't really look at everyone driving a Jeep, but out of everyone I've seen or talked to in my town, there is one black guy that I know that drives a JK.
One of the nicest Jeep guys I've ever talked to. We probably spent close to an hour talking Jeeps when I randomly stopped him the other day at the grocery store.
my neighbor has one on 20's, and there's a guy in my area that wheels the crap out of his commander. there are several video's of his commander at bundy hill. doesn't look like anything special has been done to it, but it definitely gets used!
I'm with Big Mike, we bust Jaker's balls, but no fucks are given over your nationality or color. The only thing I hope for is cool people who like to build vehicles and drink beer.

What does race have to do with being an off road enthusiast? Even more who cares what race you are on an internet forum?
I think you are asking this question to the wrong "group".
We could get into a huge debate over the demographics and what not. Just happy to have another enthusiast. Happy to see more people enjoying these great vehicles...
The only time color is an issue around here is when black star members try to enter a raffle or non yellow members try to advertise or sell their products. I have however wheeled with the elusive Jaker so I guess I can't say I have never seen a black man in a jeep wheeling.
Even from a young age on census forms in school and such, that question has really bothered me. For having come so far, we still live in a world obsessed with separatism and division. I cannot wait for the day when everyone can focus on real problems like the ever increasing population, consumption/waste of said population, and our eventual demise if we don't start focusing on those issues. We as a global society focus on the most stupid, pointless shit. Oooo, what color are you? Who fuckin' cares!
Drove my built TJ over to the gas station one day to fill up the fuel cell before I loaded it on the trailer for a trip. A Texas highway patrol car pulled up, and a stocky, black trooper got out and walked up to me. I thought "oh shit, I'm getting a ticket". While it past inspection, it probably shouldn't have been driven on the street.
The trooper walks up and says, "nice Jeep!" Turns out he was a fellow Jeeper. He had a JKU on 37's.
There is one black guy here in my town that has a Yellow TJ with a stinger. Always has doors off if is is close to warm. He always waves but have never been able to speak to him. You definitely don't see many black dudes in Jeeps. It will come in time. I mean shit it was not long ago you rarely , in my area anyway, saw a black dude on a Harley. I see them all the time now. It is pretty cool I think. I actually had a black guy compliment me on myTJ when I had it. The black Jeep enthusiasts are out there i would say. I remember my first Metallica concert there was a black chick behind me headbangin. Actually some kids in my old neighborhood asked me if I would pullout a friend of theirs on a trail. I went to help out and it was a black kid in a stock Jimmy stuck as hell.
I can't say I've seen too many black peeps driving lifted rigs. I have a friend who has one, but that's it.
A year or so ago, Outside magazine (I believe it was Outside) had an article on the lack of advertising by outdoor lifestyle type companies geared toward black people (Patagonia, The North Face, etc.). I don't think it's just a Jeep thing. It's more of an outdoor activity thing. Off roading, hiking, camping, rock climbing. They are just activities that the gringos are drawn to.
Hi Dollar! I live for camping and hiking! I prefer mountains to woods. Although these YouTubes are old, and I've added to my repertoire of outdoor life since posting these videos, here I am in a couple of my favorite hikes:
I think everyone should hike the Grand Canyon. It's one of the most incredible places on earth. Hiking to the bottom of the Canyon was one of the highlights of my life. Each year, I plan to do it again ... maybe this year too.
(Hope this doesn't come across as showy and pretentious. Just wanted to give evidence.)
Well, I am the black Texas State Trooper mentioned above. Yes, I had a 2009 Red Rock JK with all the good stuff. I now have a 2013 Dune JKU thay will be getting front 12" Fox Coilovers and 14" rear Fox Coilovers with Pac Springs. Front Poison Spyder shorty bumper with stinger. The rear will have again the Poison Spyder BFH bumper. The list goes on. But to answer your question about black jeepers. I think you don't see to many of us on trails because we have never really been exposed to the outdoors in this fashion. I used to get stares all the time and still do when I pull up to a red light or stop sign. It is really funny when you see the looks on peoples faces. The only way for this to change is my people get exposed to the 4x4 community. I thought I was not going to be accepted when I walked into my first offroad shop. But that has since changed. A lot of guys talk to me on a regular basis and ask if I am going on the next wheeling trip. For example, last year was my very first time to actually offroad at Superlift Offroad in Arkansas. I had a blast and my wife was with me. I was the only black guy with Texas JK jeep club at the event. We were welcomed with open arms. And I won about half the raffle, it was awesome. My outdoor background though comes from the Marine Corps, so that is why I enjoy it so much being in the elements. Offroading to me is a stress relief. I even entered the hill climb. Hopefully I can change the perception of a jeep club to others and they buy a jeep one day. That's my story.

I'm black and my JK (BTW also black) is my 5th Jeep. I caught the bug with my first XJ in college, and my passion for Jeep and Jeep products has never waned. I have often questioned my own intelligence for enduring the blood, sweat, and tears that Jeep ownership/worship require, but I have never stopped loving the brand.
In theory you could analyze the customer base of any vehicle and discuss why you don't see X group of people choosing to drive or purchase that vehicle. In my lifetime, I've observed the ZJ Grand Cherokee and now the 4door JK bring a variety of customers to the Jeep family that previously would have never considered the brand. So it's possible that the dearth of black or minority representation in Jeep ownership could change in the future.
So it's admirable that the OP sees a lack of diversity in the Jeep faithful and is curious as to why others do not adore the brand that he loves so dearly. But let's not forget that blacks in the U.S.represent about only 13% of the population, and many live in areas where enjoyment of rugged, utilitarian, offroad vehicle is impractical or just isn't desired.
I admit that there is a modicum of pride that arises when I encounter another Jeeper with a lifted Jeep who happens to be black. However there is no difference in the substance of the conversations that I have with those individuals in comparison to non-black Jeepers.
TL;DR: Jeeps won't appeal to everyone for various reasons and that's okay.
Who are all you dipshits trying to fool. Black guys don't have big ass Jeeps because they don't have tiny dicks to compensate for. :cwm13:
Me not included of course.
