Rebuilt Steering gear

My gear box is leaking from the sector shaft. I don't need hydro, and since it's a daily driver I can't have it down for several days and send the box off to be rebuilt. Anyone running an Autozone Duralast box? Impressions?

Good question. It's on their website, I was thinking of stopping in after work and trying to order one.

My local Auto Zone agrees with their website. Says they can get the steering gear in 2 days. $263.99 with a $115 core charge. Lifetime warranty. I would probably order it at the store to avoid dealing with shipping the core.

Anyone running one? Any better ideas besides going hydro?

I'm hesitating on this steering gear replacement because even though Autozone has a lifetime warranty, I would rather do it once and forget about it.

With that in mind, found Red Head Steering Gears
I haven't found any negative reviews for them anywhere. They are recommended on several auto forums especially for trucks.
Their Re-Manufacturing process sounds good but what do I know. Red head says they have one in stock ready to ship.

Red Head is roughly $150 - $200 more expensive depending on core shipping cost
Autozone: $294 + $115 core No shipping local store
Red Head: $426 + $200 core $35 shipping.

I'm leaning towards Red Head, but I thought I would see if anyone on JKO has any experience with them before I pull the trigger.

if your giving az a core that means they might be rebuilding them so you may get a delphi box back as i think they are the only ones rebuildable. im going through the same thing now and need one. i also found my local napa that sell med-duty parts can get me one also.

Sector seal is a piece of cake. Remove arm, pop snap ring, fire up engine and let pump pressure pop seal... Pack the seal with grease provided, install in reverse order.

Only hard part is getting pittman arm off.
