Ok, so after 25 years of diesel Toyotas I'm looking at replacing my current ride with a JK, basically giving best value for money in Oz at the moment. We're running out of solid axle options down here, with the Jeep and Nissan Patrol being the only choices.
Anyway, after driving a Grand Cherokee around Toronto recently, I was really impressed with the fuel economy- 9 l per 100kms, which is better than my diesel Toyota.
Oz jeeps get the petrol V6 and an Italian 2.8 turbo diesel. My question is what sort of fuel consumption does the petrol engine get? I expect not as good as the Grand, given that they are a box on wheels. General usage is touring/camping and long distance towing for a sports car ~ 1000 kg on its trailer. The diesel is a premium cost that I'm not sure is worth it and a petrol model can be had for a good price, leaving extra for accessories.

I would prefer a Rubicon, but they are a bit harder to come by at the moment.
