Is it wrong to do this

Everyone has seen GenRights bumpers & rock rails & fenders that are aluminum. The thing is I like the look and I've been thinking about copying that look. Would it be wrong for me to paint my bumpers, rails & stock fenders to match the look of theirs? I'm tired of looking at black.
Kind of a odd question I know, but I kinda feel it's wrong to do it or is imitation the best form of flattery.

I don't see anything wrong with painting flares or rockers any color you see fit. Lots of companies make aluminum products in and outside the offroad world. Do what you want and flip the haters the bird.

I do not see any problem with painting your fenders. You are not copying the GenRight design.

x2

The grey color of their bumpers/rockers looks pretty awesome. No monopoly on style.

Thanks guys. And I would never sell them off as GenRight, that would just be beyond wrong.

Paint away and no problem. Fabricate away and copy the look...no problem just don't pass them off as genright's design and anybody that has a problem can suck a big dick.

What they said. For example, I built my own bumpers, and built them as close as possible to Poison Spyder's because I like the look, but I also like to fabricate my own stuff. It's the "built not bought" thing I guess.

Now, I stopped short of trying to duplicate their spider (Spyder?) logo cutouts precisely because I wasn't trying to pass them off as their product. Someone who knows, and looks carefully, can tell the difference. And I certainly would not try to start selling them because that would be to try to profit from someone else's intellectual property.

But what color you paint them is not remotely "own-able," unless you picked some company's copyrighted logo color formula. But even then you'd have to be trying to profit from it for there to be anything at all objectionable. Spray away and enjoy what appeals to you.

It's not that I wanted to make bumpers & sliders that look like theirs but to paint the ones I have now to match the color of their aluminum ones.
It;s just that I'm getting tired of looking at black. The jeep is natural green pearl. So, to me, I think it might look better.

There is no right or wrong and you shouldn't give 2 shits thinking about it. Do whatever you want to do.
