GoPro Mounting

The wife got me a GoPro for Christmas and I'm trying to figure out the best place to mount mine.

So how is everyone mounting their GoPro's and with which mount?

Bring on the pictures.

Happen to have a screen cap of a video with it mounted there?

General discussion, pretty close!

Oh yeah, I have Contour cameras! They just use standard 1/4 - 20 threads, I can use standard mounts. I use a windshield suction cup mount for in cab and a sticky mount for the front bumper to face into the wheel well to watch suspension cycles, etc.

Where to begin.

I have a dash mount on the passengers side.

A mount on my front bumper bar.

I often use the big suction cup mount centre top of front window outside.

I have a headrest dvd player mount that my kid broke, turned into a side mount that slides out the rear passenger window to give a drivers side view

Lastly I sometimes use a microohone stand mounted in the trunk to give a top down view.

I use the wireless backpack to control camera with the phone app, that drastically kills the battery though ao I usually have two usb cables permanently attaches.

Hope that helps

Unspoilt by progress.

Carolina Metal Masters makes a "ram ball" mount that can be screwed into the a-pillar where their grab handles go... you can also use this as an excuse to get their grab handles as the front set comes with ram ball mounts on each side!

I use the suction cup mount and really like putting on either side of the rear panel right above the rear fender flare. Gives a good vantage.

I have mine mounted inside on the drivers side attached to my Welcome Distributing Grab Handles using the Go-Pro mounts. Before I had the handles in I had it attached with the suction cup mount to the inside of the windshield.

I use the RAM suction cup mount on the windshield. Just stick it in between the wipers on the bottom of the windshield since I don't worry about rain much here. I'll eventually mount a couple of the sticky mounts that comes with the camera on the Jeep but I used them all on the motorcycle

So I stuck it on the back of the Jeep in front of me and got some sweet videos.

Now I just need to learn how to edit all the videos I got!

I just mounted mine on the front, on the grill, in the morning, then switched to the tailgate in the afternoon when I was at Rausch Creek Saturday. Still gotta edit those vids though. I have yet to use anything other than the suction mount on the Jeep. If it suctioned, I sticks. Lol.

Here's my YouTube, mobile version though. I'm on my ipad. I'll try to get my new vids up this weekend.

Have the suction cup mount and have only place it on the hood so far. Our next adventure we will be a little more brave and place it on various locations on vehicle to shoot in front, behind and possibly underneath as well.

Lucky you in getting the software to work. Several of us have not been able to get their software to run. In the process of attempting to edit with Pinnacle 17.

I have a front bumper mount, above the dash (upside down) on the passenger side, and just put one on the top bar by the dome light. Not real impressed with the video from that one. It is cool to watch myself drive, but you don't get a good view of the trail. These were all done with the supplied plastic mounts with double-stick tape.

i dont have a walking pole yet... but when I do... i like the view when its zip-tied to the front bumper looking back for the occasional shot. i tried it with a big stick i snatched out of the woods once but it was too flimsy. the view was pretty cool though.

heres the idea... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v...type=3&theater

i got a suction cup mount. i haven't tried it on the jeep yet, but a side shot with the tire/fender in it is always pretty cool. undercarriage shots of suspension/drivetrain...

i've used mine on my bike more. mostly clipped to the mount on my helmet. if the roof line wasn't so low on the JK, using a headband mount might actually work, too.

that flat plastic piece is cool for setting up ground level shots, or laying somewhere in a vehicle. i did that and got some pretty cool shots on a summer trip of the kids. none of my computers are good enough to process the video, though.

Is there a way to set up the gopro to turn on and start recording once the engine is started?

Not that I know of. You can turn it on/off and record/stop via smart phone though.

Apparently I'm not the only one wanting this feature.

A bit pricy on top of the price of a gopro, I'm sure there are better/cheaper options for a dash cam.

I hang it upside down off of the roll bar. Pardon the lack of color grading or any of that. Camera is smarter than my computer.
