Exclamation Fell Asleep at the weel

Coming back from my home town to the base, I feel asleep at the wheel....this happened about 1:48 am, going south on 46 at 80mph.... I don't know why but I woke up, fully awake before it all happened, I think it was god that saved me.

I ran over some huge curbs, went over a ditch (and I mean a ditch...not a drainage ditch) and back on the other road and back onto a cross road... I saw all the lights the JK has and then some, the JK went back and forth screaching like it was hurt trying to flip but I managed to correct the vehicle without over correcting (thank you my job, Heavy equipment)...my experience with heavy equipment thought me to never over correct..and it became instinct not to when this happened and I managed to keep it straight long enough to slow down to a stop

I got some body damage, some nice dents on the hood from I don't know what, it's not too bad, I will inspect the underbody tomorrow, I'm sure I will find some damage there.

To put things in perpective if I haven't already .. My phone was in the cupholder....I fould it in the rear cargo....right next to the back door...and it's not a light phone, my wallet ended up with the cards all over the place but the important thing is that nothing happened and I am safe....

After this I won't drive this late unless I absolutely have to, I was devating weather to stay with my mom or a friend, sleep and come back in the morning since I have today tuesday off..

I think god gave me a good wakeup call.... I'm going to follow it.

For those of you that think that the electronics on the JK are a waste of money/time/effort.... I'm glad I had them an hour ago.
And If I had not had the clearance to clear those curbs, even tough im sure I hit the frame, and the handleing I did...I would not be here, I would be over a cliff... I love that jeep.

You are one lucky sob. Thank God for some luck and your training taking over even when you weren't thinking clearly. Definitely think about not only your safety but that of others when you're that tired. I could have been much worse if someone else was on the road, for you and them.

Been there done that driving back to base late also. I had the windows down, radio up, and had drank a couple Mt. Dew's. Still fell asleep. It's an amazing wake up call. Glad your okay.

Glad to hear that you are ok, even though the jeep is not.

You are very lucky. A friend of mine had the same thing happen, only he rolled his car 6 times down an embankment on the Garden State Parkway.

I'm sure that after that, I would have needed a and a new change of shorts.

Glad you're ok. Bet that kept you awake the rest of the way. In the past, I've done the same thing, driving that last 100 miles to get home, chugging coffee w/ the windows down.

I don't know how many safety briefings I've given (and sat in) where the audience thinks "we've heard this all before."

Wow... glad to hear you are good to go. Also glad that the damage to the rig is minimal, I cannot count how many wrecks I worked due to the driver going to sleep - often there is another vehicle involved, thank goodness that didnt happen to you.

Yeah glad to hear you are okay. All other things can be fixed

I fell asleep traveling about the same speed as you on a long straight portion of the interstate. I woke up a few feet from the back of a semi that was going considerably slower. After getting over the initial adrenaline overload I parked in the grass by the emergency lane and slept for a couple hours.

Thanks guys, and I will remember this and will seriously think about driving like that again... sadly we always hear people talk about what happened when they did what and we always think it could never happen to us...

Welp, I just grew up a little bit more lol

Been there, almost did that. If I even feel tired I will pull over and sleep. I have had quite a few state troopers pull up behind me and check to see what was up

"scuse me sir, is there a problem?"

"no, just sleeping. I was tired and pulled over"

"you are in the grass"

"Yes, I don't trust these non-driving retards so I pulled way off the highway"

"get some sleep sir, I will let the other troopers know you are OK here"
