Aftermarket Security Systems?

...So this kind of sounds like an oxymoron, considering I have an Unlimited X with no power windows or doors, but I'm still considering a security system just for theft deterrent purposes.

Basically, since I won't need is to unlock or lock doors, I just need something with a really good proximity alarm- something that beeps when someone gets too close to the car.

Pretty much I see it already halfway worthless, but I think just that little "beep beep" with lights flashing to set the alarm when I walk away is worth it. If I can get something for a couple hundred bucks why not.

Anyone in a similar situation running an aftermarket alarm? And if so what? Thanks

Oh man, that beep beep noise was the first thing I learned to turn off when we got the Jeep. To me it's like a beacon that says listen everybody I'm locking the doors

I have nothing, sorry.

Send a message via Yahoo to rob4607

& few years back when I did alarms there were a few companies that offered the alarm brain and siren in one unit, the only wires you needed to run in were the proximity sensor since the shock sensor was also built in and the trigger wire to activate the starter interrupt.

this would be perfect the only thing that you would have to add would be a hood pin switch so if they open the hood it will go off. cheap, any one can wire it up and wholesale they were around 7f bucks. I did a lot of them and they worked surprisingly well. the only other wire you need inside is the purple with black stripe in the driver dash panel at the door. it will have a delay due to the courtesy light feature but easier than tapping at each door location if you want it the other way. get a 120db piezo and mount under the dash and people will really stay out.

I feel your situation.....I have half doors and never run with the uppers year round and I am running Viper alarm. Like you said its almost pointless but it does attract enough attention when my kids open the doors while its armed

X2

If you just want a deterrent, get one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/DEI-620V-Viper-a...d=p3286.c0.m14

Wire it to a normally closed relay (5 prong) triggered by the ignition, so that when the ignition is on the light is off, but goes on as soon as the ignition is off.

It attaches to the windshield, flashes and is really bright.

If you want a real alram, then I've had several Viper alarms and they've all worked well for me.

just don't be stupid and leave anything that can be stolen in the jeep. eliminates need for security.

If you are worried about theft of the vehicle, you are wasting your time with an alarm.
The vehicle has a chip key.

I am having a viper alarm installed in mine, along with the proximity sensor, so when top is off if someone sticks their hand in it will trigger the alarm. $299 installed at bestbuy
