Pic Request- 4 door with cage pads off

Contemplating removing the OEM padding from the cage on my 4 door when I Line-X the whole thing and put on a new roof. I'm a little unsure of how it will look though. I think it might look too skinny and disproportionate, especially with the sound bar in the middle.

Would normally just do it myself first to see how it looks, but they don't look like something that will go back on easily once you take them off.

Can someone please post pics if they've done this to their 4 door and painted the metal frame beneath?

Thanks in advance!

TK- I'm getting the Wade Skytop and adding the 3pcs Safari Straps to the back. If I don't like the Wade I'll have something custom made probably.

Yea, I'm doing all the prep work myself. Since I'm Line-X'ing the whole interior and exterior I plan on it being a lot of work. Will use your writeup to help gut the interior, but will then have to pull off all the exterior plastic pieces and tape things off. I found a guy locally that will do interior and exterior for $800, but am thinking about buying the gun and paint and just doing it myself at a buddy's paint shop.

I really want to remove the ugly pads that have already faded in the sun, but I just worry its going to look too skinny and weird. Hmm...

did you get the wade tops already? I think I saw someone selling them in the forsale section here

IMO the bars look goofy without the padding, maybe have a fabric shop make you different colors?

WOW you're doing the exterior also? Dude I cannot wait to see that, that will be sick and for 800 thats a STEAL. Have you checked with getting actual linex yourself? I believe you have to buy it in Big bulk unless a local dealer will sell it to you. I paid 600 just for the tub, another 100 for my front bumper and 100 for my tuffy drawer.

I'd see if you can get new pads, just on the safety aspect of it. Imagine that roll bar, covered in Line-x, with the padding removed, and your head hitting that. The padding will at least provide some cushioning.

Hmm, maybe new ones are in order. I wish someone would at least make a better looking aftermarket option...

You could just give them a new dye job... Just a thought!
