JKU-Rubicon u joint discontinued?

I have a 2007 JKU-Rubicon, I need a u joint replaced and local parts stores keep trying to sell me 297X, so I call the dealer who askes me for the casting number on my stub shaft, saying it might be a discontinued part. Were these joints actually different or were these stubs machined poorly? My stub caps can spin in shaft. Obviously the fix is to replace with aftermarket. Does anyone have any insight into this stub/u joint issue?

Not really an answer to your question but maybe it will at least provide some info that will help you. Click here: http://www.dynatrac.com/products/jk/...KBallJoint.pdf

Not discontinued. Most dealerships are kind of dumb when it comes to spare u-joints it seems. The Chrysler part number for the rubi u-joint is 68145053AA

Check out this link

I agree that is the OE Rubicon u joint, problem arises when you have a stub shaft with a different casting # for example mine is 2002422GJ which calls for u joint PN 68017182AA which is not available, dealer will sell you axle assemblies Rt and Lt for $5xx canadian. Clearly they will be replaced with aftermarket chromos. Just didn't know it was gonna be so soon
