anyone else have trouble

my 09 Rubicon 2 dr
only has 7000 km's on it and now it's in the shop for front Diff pinion bearing
anyone else have this problem or is it common
i dont wheel it much but when i do i wheel kinda hard for a stock rig
also i just had the front diff vent tube and cap and nipple replaced cause i lost it in a bog hole
would this contribute to this bearing being ****ed?
any info would be great
thanx from the great white North

I've heard of a few issues with the front pinion seal causing squealing/grinding, but not really with the pinion bearing.

If you got water in the diff and never did anything about it, yes it could cause premature wear issues. The fluid would be like choc milk and the dealer would definitely notice it.

they did notice
we live in a very wet environment so it was common to get water in there
i guess there might have been more then usuall cause of the vent tube missing
but i have a few friends that have Dana 44 and no one has had to replace a pinion bearing this soon
and they love water

Common or not, water in the diff is a bad thing. Could be you had badly setup bearings, but if you've been running around with water in the diff then the water may well be the cause.

ya it took them 2 months to get the part so i had to drive it and yes i got water in there
but it was their fault and it is all covered under warranty so for now i cant complain i guess
and it will take atleast 10 days to get the bearings here lol
so i guess i'll be forced to drive the car lol
what kind of damage can i cause if i do drive the JK untill it's fixed?

I agree with Phil, and if water got in there is a high probability of sand and/or grit getting in with it. It will not take long at all for this to ruin a set of bearings prematurely. Most bearings operate under very close tolerances (clearances), grit and sand mixed with h20 will quickly increase the clearances whether roller, needle or ball bearings. the h20 is detrimental to the diff oil and decreases it's lubricating properties. You might want to think about extending your vent tube up to the top of your firewall.

Exclamation Lube.....

I had a friend that was in a POW camp during WW II. He had bought a new car (new to him) just before going off to the war in Europe. The Germans held all mail to the POW's for 9 months before giving it to them to insure security. So he gets a picture of the dash of his "new" car from his wife and a letter that says, "Does the Car need oil?"

Some how your post made me think of that!
