Thumbs up Chrysler Group LLC Born

Very good news I can finally feel that we have moved forward from Chapter 11 and hopefully Fiat is good for the brand. I trust they are since they did not ruin Ferrari.

Quote:

Late Sunday night, U.S. bankruptcy Judge Arthur Gonzalez approved the sale of Chrysler's remaining good assets to a group that includes the UAW VEBA health care trust, Fiat, and the U.S. and Canadian governments. The union will get a 68% stake, Fiat gets 20% and the governments split the rest. Gonzalez over-ruled virtually all objections to the deal on the grounds that the best chance of preserving any value in the assets was to move ahead with the sale. The only other viable alternative was liquidation, which would likely only bring a small fraction of the potential value in keeping the company alive.

Gonzalez cited the public interest as one of the reasons to move ahead with the sale. Because the billions of dollars in loans from the two governments, keeping the company alive it was decided that this course of action was the best opportunity for some repayment. Senior lenders will receive $2 billion, or about .29 cents on the dollar of the debt currently owed by Chrysler. Some 90 percent of the company's senior lenders were reportedly in support of the deal.

The "new" Chrysler will henceforth be known as Chrysler Group LLC.

Good news, indeed. The new name, however, makes them sound more like a law firm than a car company.

Problem is, is that the UAW owns most of it now... They'll bankrupt Fiat now.

I know next to nothing about most things, UAW included, but it seems to me like, when the economy is good, fighting for higher wages is OK, but when a company is going bankrupt, the economy is really bad, and they're still trying to get $30/hr to attach a door and snap a piece of door trim on, they are directly causing their own demise with their greed. Take freakin pay cuts across the board, save your industry and then, when things get better, you can go back to getting (over)paid. Again, all numbers made up and all ideas formed in the head of a deralict!! (me)

My dad was UAW (retired last year), he worked on the line for 17 years. He made 26 bucks an hour working 2nd shift at his plant. I have no idea what wages others get.

that seems like alot, and I know the $/hr + benies is not the actuall gross cash, but still, seems like alot of factories are in semi-rural areas where the cost of living cant be THAT high, taking temporary (1 year or so) pay cuts could let the manufacturer sell american vehicles a little cheaper, compete with the forign auto makers who dont pay near that much for labor (guess on my part) and help the company they work for survive instead of assisting it to fail.

Again, back on topic a bit, Im glad the bankruptcy is behind us now, but seems to me that unless they change their buisiness practices and spending, it will be right back in the crapper before too long.

This was a result of Diamlers failed business practices..Not cerberius. Fiat's ceo has a great track record of a turnarround so I am excited about the future, Esp after we pay Nobama off.

All I have to say is, they can't be worse than Daimler was for Chrysler! They made Chrysler interiors look and feel like JUNK, and turned away a lot of customers. Thankfully, the new models are all updated with somewhat better interiors. Now, for some fine, Italian leather in your Grand Cherokee, Mr. Customer... Mark W.

Back in a '94 YJ! Well, after I sink $$$$ into it...

The new 2011 GC and 300 will have the nicest interiors I have ever seen in a automobile...And I have seen some nice cars.

As it looks now, but it seem to be going way to smoothly IMO. I'm just waiting to hear about that catch that nobody read in the fine print.

Isn't this a replay of when Chrysler bombed in the mid to late 80's?

I think K-mart bailed them out then. Also the pay rates have a lot to do with TOTAL cost of labor per hour worked. So these benefits would also include all of the government mandated and union negotiated deals over the years where they pay people to NOT work. Something about an offset for using more robotics in the production line, etc.

You can also join CAB = Chryslers Advisory Board. An online chat thing about the company and what its doing. I just don't know if they are really listening in their upscale posh board rooms or not.
