Trail riding around Ouray

20-24 July. Hitting wheeler geologic area (by way of stoney pass) on the 25th. Folks are welcome to join my wife and I (we will be in separate jeeps). This is sight seeing trail riding with the wife along. Of course I am sure I will have to play around on the one obstacle on poughkeepsie. I do plan on one night run to do some star watching on the mountain (oh point maybe). PM me if you are interested in joining us.

I have jeeps. I do shit to them.

Damn, will miss you by a week. Arriving in Ouray on July 25th, and heading to Creede over Stony Pass on August 1st. Have a great time.

1578 miles, in Ouray. Did owl creek today on the way in. Trail was just a bit rutted. Very scenic.

We did mineral creek and Poughkeepsie today. I crawled the wall and my wife made it up in her i lifted 13 without winching. Weather was perfect. Met some good folks. We ended with two more jeeps with us to animas forks where we split. We went into silver ton to eat and poke around. It did rain on the way back. Oh yeah, 550+rain+finicky hydro steering was not fun.

Mineral creek was very fun. Lots of little rock to play in. There is a spot not far in on the right with a few fire pits and a nice view.

Poughkeepsie was fun. I think the fx summit traffic worsened trail conditions which added to the fun. Lots of paths up past the wall. Definitely some fun rock to play in. That 12600 foot air is thin. Plan for additional time at the wall and lake. We ended up spotting at the wall and had to winch one. Pulling that line at altitude while living at almost sea level was an experience. Definitely do this one while here. My wife got lots of cheers and honks when she made it up the wall. That was her first real obstacle and she loved it.

We will do Yankee boy today and take it easy. Tomorrow will be Ophir and Imogene. Next day will be engineer and cinnamon.

Pics to follow in a trip report thread.

Awesome, thanks for the info. We leave in 3 days! Can't wait. Did they open a bypass at The Wall yet? We will have a couple stock Jeeps with us.

The bypass is open. It is well before the wall. The stuff past the wall was a bit rougher, based on comments from someone who had been before. We did governor basin today. It was short and scenic. I don't feel the need to do it again. Ophir and Imogene tomorrow. We had lunch in a pocket just past the bridge on the ouray side of Imogene.

Nice...I'll be heading out there in Sept. One of my favorite places.

Post up some pics if you have them.

We did Ophir then drove up to telluride. After a few hours in telluride we headed to Imogene. Imogene was more fun than Ophir. Together they made a fun loop.

Engineer and cinnamon tomorrow. Oh, we went to the hot springs cave and relaxed. More try cool place.

I was on Poughkeepsie yesterday. White four door with a silver 2 door. Was your group with the lady who had the desiel grand? I was impressed that such a low rider with no articulation almost made it.

I was not with them. We did Poughkeepsie Monday. I was in the Orange 4 door on 40s. My wife made it up the wall in her unlifted 4 door with 35s.

Left the area via stony pass today. The creek was not high at all. The only thing of note was some rutted mud on the trail to the road which passes the rio grande reservoir. We are in south fork now. Stoney was nice and the mountain sheep herder was an unexpected sight.

Mineral creek remains my favorite trail we did.

I got up with 32's (34x10.5/17 ko2 which really measure 32") and 2.5" lift 4 door jkur and believe it or not my brother got up with 33's and 2.5" lift no lockers in his sport. He had not been off road before this week. I take some credit tho as I am a pretty fair spotter. Somebody spewed a lot of oil on the rock in the Vee which made it tougher. Also the hole at the bottom was pretty deep and dug out. Some lady in what appeared to be a stock grand almost made it up but turtled bad because she turned the driver instead of passenger and really got hung up. It was pretty impressive tho and was surprised she made it to that point. She was at least 60 yoa or so so pretty cool.
