What's funny about that feature is that in another section of the same magazine that engine is listed as one of the 10 dumbest engine swaps for a Jeep. It seems that with this issue there is not much consistency in editing.

Love you brother and you will always be my hero!

Yeah saw that although the editors all had a difference of opinion and the 4bt can be hard to live with daily due to the noise...not much louder than a old 5.9 or old ford powerstroke.

Yeah if you were to insulate the floor as he did after the article was written it wouldn't be any worse than an old 5.9 cummins.

Yeah straight pipe with no sound deadening, no louder than a 5.9 cummins truck. With a muffler and sound deadening it would be about the same.

My buddy swapped a b3.3 in his TJ. It's pretty epic. 4bt's are too bulky, b3.3's are where its at.

If I remember right they have no power and no accessory belt drive since they were for generators.

His does just fine. I don't have pics of his under-hood situation, but it's a damned beast. He's got no power problems. IIRC he was pushing almost 400 ft/lbs. And he DD's it.

It brings back fond memories of Case backhoes and trenchers. . . I worked around them all day. You get used to the noise.

The stock power from a 3.3 is way low so what mods did he do to get 400 ft tq?

Kudos to him for putting the 4bt in. I saw pics of this on Youtube and I thought (and still think) it's cool as shit.

But then again, I'm partial to engine swaps.

I think the noise adds to the cool factor anyway.

He works for cummins, writing programs and tuning. I couldn't tell you what he did, I just know that it works, and works well.

Me too just saw a cool build on ROF with the Dodge 5.9 v8 (not Diesel) guy spent $2200 engine and trans rebuilt them even. He skimped on the wiring harness but man it seemed like a cheaper route than the hemi and its interface is slightly better for my LJ. Still on the fence and I am a ways out so I have time.

Heres info on the 3.3 which is small and light weight.

http://www.cummins-sp.com/engines/in...b33_engine.htm

Looks like Turbo Charged 85 HP and 215 Ft Tq, if you inter-cool you should boost 100ft tq easily. You are right its a nice small package for a Jeep.

To be clear, I wasn't knocking your buddy. Any oil burner in a jeep does it for me, I just like the lack of packaging problems that the 3.3 offers is all.

I get that and I think your right. Its not a popular Jeep conversion like the 4bt buts its a better alternative. There's a shop in Co called Proffit's cruisers that do the conversion with the 3.3.
