I have wanted a 10mm 1911 for a while.
The standard Delta Elite was a solid gun but lacked a lot of the features I like in a 1911.
In October I bought one of the new Delta Elite XE models.
It's a great shooter.
Tight lock-up. Great trigger. Very solid.
Much softer recoil than I was led to believe(like a .45+P)thanks to the dual-recoil spring.

However, it consistently shot low and left.
Tight groups-just not where I wanted them.
I had to replace the rear sight with a Dawson Precision adjustable Novak
to get it to shoot where I pointed it.
I carried it deer hunting in Dec. as a back-up to my muzzle loader, but never needed it.
I find the Sig Elite V-crown ammo is potent and accurate.

My only real gripe is that Colt just came out with a railed version in Jan. and now I wish I'd waited.
There are getting to be more 10mms on the market and some are very nice if you can afford them.( Dan Wesson Bruin would be awesome)
I see Springfield Armory is coming out with a TRP model.
But for a sub $1,000 gun the Colt XE delta is a great gun IMO.

I have owned one since 1988, it was my first 10mm, it can't take the hotter 10mm loads as my Glocks can, but fun non the less.

The original Deltas has some issues with hotter loads but Colt has addressed these in later models.
Basically Colt was stuffing a 10mm into a gun built for .45acp and the hotter stuff(which has nearly double the chamber pressure of .45)was causing premature wear and cracking frames.
The new Deltas can take anything SAAMI rated including the heavy Cor-Bon and Buffalo Bore loadings.
Most of us(myself anyway) can't afford to run enough of that stuff to have a real impact on longevity anyway...

P.S. A couple weeks back I bought a Wilson stainless match bushing and after a couple labor intensive hours fit it to my Delta Elite. It is now much tighter and brought the point of impact up where it should be. Group size was improved too.
