Mech Tech?

Seems like it could be fun and, if dependability/reliability is as good as your life, maybe as an HD option for those of us that don't use ARs, shotguns, SBRs, et al, for home?
Mech Tech Systems - The world's most versatile pistol carbine accessory
Anyone know anything?
Thoughts, other than "just get an AR"?

Dunno about out in "Free America", but in the Marxist stronghold of Kalifornistan that would be an "Assault Weapon"

Would be considered a centerfire rifle with detachable magazine and evil-as-Satan's-nutsack pistol grip .

Dunno if I'd want to lose a pistol to gain a carbine, but it could be a fun setup if it's built worth a damn.

For the same amount of "evil" features, I'd lean toward a "Chicago Typewriter"

Could be fun to have a 45acp plinker to mess around with.

edit: ExWrench just posted the pinnacle of 45acp plinkers, that all other 45acp plinkers are judged.

That's a rhetorical question, right?

Absolutely infallible logic, there ^^^, but it leads to another problem:

Similar to what the crybabies on the news right now are saying,
but with a completely different meaning, of course,
I need a shitload more gun safe space because of all the guns.

I bought a mech tech upper about 6 months ago with the plan of mating it to a polymer 80 glock 17 frame, but I've been too lazy to mill out the frame so I can't report on it other than to say it looks really cool.

In commiefornia there are multiple issues with the mech tech (as I understand it):

1) if you try to put it on a frame already registered as a pistol, it is illegal because that makes it a pistol with a shoulder stock which is a big no-no in our fine state

Which is part of the reason I'm building it on an unregistered lower - although the laws are changing on unregulated build-your-own shit too But even if it isn't a registered pistol lower, then you run up against another issue:

2) as you pointed out, a centerfire rifle with a detachable mag is illegal. So I will need to cook up some sort of "bullet button" type thingy, which shouldn't be too hard. Although the state is working on making those illegal too

Damn I hate our state

Please tell me that still only applies to guns that have "evil" features?

Ever use Knipex pliers? They're really good.

Don't know when it will happen (kinda house shopping right now so, psychologically, it makes it hard to buy stuff), but eventually that Mech Tech will end up on my short list.

Yes I believe it still only applies to guns with evil features, but one of those evil features is a pistol grip. i suppose you could attach a fin to the back of the grip so you can't wrap your thumb around it, which I think technically makes it no longer a pistol grip. Trying to build a kalifornia compliant rifle is such a pain in the ass.

I'd hold off an any non-essential toy purchases until the house is a done deal.

A few extra grand in-hand may make a difference, and you'll feel like a dick if you spent it unnecessarily.

Cool, thanks for clarifying! I was worried that Bloomberg's robots had pushed past the current ridiculous to full-recockulous.

I have a Ruger Mini-30 and some aftermarket 10-round mags. No "evils", just bidniss
Pisses me off to no end that Ruger only sells 5-rd and 20-rd mags for the Mini-30.
I would literally buy at least 10 factory 10-round magazines for my Mini-30 tomorrow if they were available.

Out of stock right now, but they sell 20 round factory mags pinned to limit them to 10 round capacity. Those are nice because if you ever move out of state you can use your extensive plier collection to convert them back to 20 round mags

Yeah, I've thought about buying a few 20-rd mags and pinning 'em, but it irks me to store 10 rounds of air.

Hadn't Googled "mini 30 10 round magazine" in awhile, and . . .
Holy, crap! - it looks like Ruger finally stepped up Mini-Thirtyģ 10-Round Magazine-ShopRuger

Now I gotta' budget some "walkin' around" money into "holdin' 10 rounds" money.

EDIT: "Out of Stock" - might just be a bullshit "placeholder" item listing

In my head I'm picturing a Pelican (or similar) case. When opened it would have a Mech Tech across the top, with a G19 frame attached. Below and to the right would be another, complete G19. Across the rest of the bottom would be a row of mags that could be used in either. Would be pretty cool.

A Kel-Tec Sub 2000 that takes Glock mags would be a cheaper way to set up a similar system, but there are two problems with that. First, finding a Sub 2000 is like finding a living architeuthis; they are out there, and a few dedicated individuals have sighted them in the wild and there is video footage. But the average person will never have the privilege of seeing one in person. Second, despite zero experience with the Mech-Tech, I still have more faith in it than Kel-Tec.

What about one of these? Assuming you can get your hands on one. https://www.keltecweapons.com/rifles/sub-2000

See my post above yours. Honestly I'd already have one if I could find one for near retail price (or below, as they seem to be sold when "normally" priced at a gun shop). I saw one of the first gens at at gun show for around $700, (if I remember correctly), which I decided against paying for one of the first gens. Gunbroker is the only other place I've ever personally found them in stock, and they seem to run between $100-$400 above retail at least. Combine that with tax, shipping, transfer fees (and my aversion to buying from that type of site) and suddenly I'm paying nearly double retail (or more for some of the higher priced ones) for a gun with known past issues and from a company that I see as having a checkered reputation for quality/reliability. Again, I'd have totally taken a chance by now if they were available for around retail price. But I can't bring myself to pay a premium at an auction site for a sight-unseen example of one of these.

Just my thoughts on the Sub 2000.

Agreed.

I have an accepted offer as of today, so now I just have the fun of two+ months of paperwork, inspections, moving, etc. Good times. If all that goes well, I may actually have some free time and a little extra spending money by the middle of next year, haha.

So it doesn't seem like anyone has any experience with the Mech Tech. If anyone ends up with one report back on the results.

If anyone has a glock 17 and lives in the Bay Area, maybe we can meet up at a range and test my mech tech upper using your glock lower and then check back here with a range report.

I just bought a cz scorpion evo 3 so it would be interesting to compare that to the mech tech.

MechTech

Sorry for you folks in California.

I loved mine. I had my G-20 lower mounted on it and used my G21 mags. I also had a couple of the 27 round extended mags. It was a fun plunkin machine. You can literally lob in 230g rounds onto a gong at 200 yds and have a blast all day. Never gave me a single problem. I had to sell a while back after losing my job. If I were to do it again I'd go with a 9mm or 10mm version. I just think you could get more utility out of those rounds. Then again, I load 45 pretty dang cheap these days.
