start of my battle belt

i started putting together a battle belt. I'll mostly use it for class of course but my idea was to have it put together so if things ever really went bad, i could just toss the belt on, toss the gun in the holster, grab the rifle and be good to go in under a minute.

Anyway, it's all HSGI. i did their nice rigger belt too and 2 double decker tacos and a single pistol taco.

Still waiting on the Molle adapter for the holster and i haven't figure out what else i'm going to put on it. Probably a med kit and a dump pouch.

It just got pricey, i'm 300 or so into that right there.

Is there anyway to put shoulder straps on it?

You can cut some of the molle away and run your holster on the belt itself. You won't want anything at least a few inches fore and aft of your holster anyway.

Also, I am a HUGE fan of keeper belts vs. suspenders. However, you do need to wear your keeper belt any time you're using the rig as it will sag some. In a SHTF or civil unrest situation where you'd need to toss it on and run, you'll be ok. I just keep my keeper belt in a utility pouch when not in use.

As for other stuff to put on your battle belt, I am by no means an authority on the subject but here's what I have on mine (from left to right)

Otis gun cleaning kit

3x AR mag pouches

3x Support side pistol mag pouches

Small utility pouch with dump pouch attached to outside (gets dump lower as I'm not flexible enough to quickly get to a waist height dump pouch at my 7 o'clock). Utility pouch holds an AR-oops kit, 2 small punches, 2 hot hands warmers, 2 protein bars, 4-5 single pack gun wipes (think hand wipes at joe's crabshack size), a ziplock with 4-5 baby wipes, wad of dryer lint for fire starting.

Quick detach IFAK with Tourniquet on outside (Content list available by PM if interested).

Gerber LMF2 with mag fire starter

Gerber multi-tool

Custom 2.5" drop holster without thigh strap

Strong side pistol mag pouch (about the 1 o'clock position)

Very nice looking start though, if this will be your first time shooting with a good belt, it is WELL worth the money. Nothing worse than walking back to the table every minute or so to pick something up or put something down. Everything has it's place and you can sustain longer than most people on the line.

Why a belt and not a vest?

If you are speaking tactically, because you should have both a belt and a plate carrier. Your plate carrier should contain enough ammo and supplies to sustain an engagement. Your battle belt should contain enough ammo and supplies to GTFO of that engagement. You would use up your PC first and replenish from your pack if able, if not you would begin using your belt. The idea is, you always want your belt to have a fighting load should you need to drop your PC for any reason.

If you are speaking general range use, it's a toss up between a chest rig and a battle belt. I prefer a battle belt because you typically don't have room on a chest rig for your IFAK, and you don't really want a dump pouch hanging off your chest.

If I am training, I will wear both. If I'm just shooting pumpkins I'll wear my belt.
