.308 auto loader... options/ideas

Looking around at .308 rifles. I don't know that i really want to go with another AR platform. I really dig the SCAR, i'm a little scared of the price.

i was also looking at FAL's and FNAR's.

it would be something to go shoot at a buddy's place. I don't have enough range to really use .308 to it's full potential, but i'd like to own one.

anyone have any experience with these guns?

I always enjoyed my metric FALs. While I love the HK G3/91, the fluted chamber is more finicky about surplus ammo. FAL ate everything I put through it. FAL is also lighter.

I have jeeps. I do shit to them.

My choice would be a Belgian or Austrian FAL. DS Arms used to put a good one together. Not sure what they are like now.

Not sayin' I wouldn't want a FAL, but I'd take this over one any day.

I have shot some Galils and they are nice. The 7.62x51s were not common and mags were silly expensive (and hard to find) back in the day. Not sure I would pick one over a FAL but the Galil is nice.

Nope, no experience...

His and hers....

17S is a great rifle. My "plinking" is 0-600m... The only bad thing is mags, if you're looking to actually have some semblance of a combat load your break-even point is 12 FN mags or 12 Magpul 308 mags + handl defense lower... since we have 2 SCAR's in the family, we got the lowers.

Fals are a cool rifle. Go to Falfiles and check the for sale forum. Lot of good home built Fal rifles around. The Fal is pretty easy to build and work on. The DPMS AP4 .308 is a great 308 AR style rifle at about $1,000.

2009 JKUX, OE rear locker, RK 1.5" Max Travel, Bilsein 5100, JCR Rock sliders and Armor, Barricade HD Trail Force front bumper and front skid.

You could buy an M1A and and AR10 for about the price of a SCAR.

I was waitin' for someone to mention that and you're the person I figured would do so.

For even money, an M1A should definitely be in the top three of anybody's choices.
I can't make up my mind so I stay happy with my Remmie 700...

Don't get me wrong, I like FAL's and AR10's just as much.

I'm a big fan of Sigs, I have the 516 and it's flawless .... Picking up the 716DMR next week, though it's overkill for what op is looking for.

2010 JK Rubicon- meh 2dr sold
2012 JKU Rubicon- bored sold
2015 JKU Rubicon- 3rd times a charm?

Ive wanted a HK91 for about 10 years now but they seem to keep creeping up in prices. Very nice rifle though imo.

A FAL or Galil would be pretty cool too.

Only downside on the HK is that they are more picky on ammo due to the fluted chamber. Don't run steel case stuff through them. Don't run anything with a tar based sealer (some south American surplus) through them. I bought my current HK91 from someone that ran surplus CAVIM through it and thought the weapon had a problem. I cleaned the tar out of the flutes and it has not jammed on quality ammo once.

If you go FAL, be careful of the metric vs imperial parts not being interchangeable.

I have jeeps. I do shit to them.
