at about 2.25 per round, I will stick with good ole fashioned hollowpoints.

And we never forgive around here.

There was another thread on this.

I called BS when the marketing video claimed that the toothed design acted like a holesaw..... Unless your gun spins the bullet at a million RPM, the forward motion of the bullet far outstrips any "hole saw" action.

It seems to me that it's just an expensive and gimmicky high-fragmentation round someone cooked up in their basement. It's designed to look cool, but that's about it.

I do not like huge marketing campaigns when it comes to defensive ammo. wouldn't you like to have those videos displayed in front of a jury with "holesaw" like action. Hell I would rather Hornady not put "Critical Mass" on my carry ammo.

I will stick with dragon's breath in my rem 870 witness protection shotgun. The idea of hurling burning magnesium into someone makes me smile.
<edit>
Really though, I keep 2/4 mix in it. The dragon's breath are fun though.

I have jeeps. I do shit to them.

Due to the price, I doubt that I'd ever buy the R.I.P. rounds and the entire "hole saw" action is BS. A 9mm round may be spinning at over 90,000 RPM from the muzzle ( 1 in 10" twist = 1.2 revolutions per foot X 75,900 fpm = 91,080 rpm) but it still takes it 10" of travel to make 1 revolution out of the muzzle and it's most likely that the tip design and light bullet weight will make it lose its rotational momentum instantly once it hits something.

The fragmentation is what I find more interesting. I like the idea, but it's a only 96 grain bullet, so each fragment will only be 12 grains at most. probably more like 9 or 10 grains since it appears that they separate from the base and the base itself is another fragment. The muzzle energy of the round is stated to be 490 ft/lbs but divide that by 10 and you get 49 ft/lbs per fragment, over distance and once it hits the target it would be less than that.

The ballistics gel video shows that it does indeed have some penetration and that the fragmentation works well, but the real question is what the actual effect is on a living target coming at you. I've also seen their video of the round hitting a chicken carcass, which proved even less since the chicken had all the innards removed.

I have some very nasty shotgun rounds that have a similar concept of fragmentation and are quite proven on bears and wild boar.
http://ddupleks.com/index.php/en/127...exolit-32.html

but a 495 grain projectile with a muzzle velocity of 1,410 fps breaking up into 7 pieces is vastly different than a 96 grain projectile with a muzzle velocity of 1,265 fps breaking up into 9 pieces.

In 9mm I think I'd rather just stick to a standard 147 grain or even 115 grain hollow point. I can buy 200 rounds of them for the price of buying 20 rounds of the R.I.P. rounds.

I gotta be me cause everyone else was already taken.

I will have a custom barrel machined with a 575 in 10" twist. That ought to make it holesaw eh?
