mosin nagant

just curious if anyone's into these guns...

i'm going to snag one from cabellas this weekend. they're 139, which i know they can be found closer or under 100. But they have 20 or so to choose from.

i know to look for the hex receiver, and i know to check the bore and action. just curious if anyone's into these guns?

I'd leave a hex receiver alone, but if i end up with a normal ol NM, i think i'd like to toss a synthetic stock on it and mount a scope. seems like it would be a fun gun to do that with.

anyone into these?

31 jeeps in... still have issues

We snagged one a while back. It was a fun gun to shoot. You should like it.

I absolutely LOVE these rifles. By far my favorite bolt-gun ever made. I want to pick one up as soon as I'm able.
But, yeah, those things: Hex reciever, check the bore/action. Try to take a look at as many as you can.

Got one from cabelas as well. Most likely wont find a hex receiver. Mine is 1939 stamped with all serials matching except the mag. Love shooting it. Stupid accurate for a surplus rifle. Great round too. Surplus Spam cans of 440 rounds can be bought for 80 bucks. Just clean the rifle after. Getting this stock for it and putting the wood away.

Stock Trigger has a long pull, and a little heavy. Will be giving mine a trigger job in the next week or so.

Nothing to really look out for except counterboring- if there's no rifling on the last inch or so or bore, skip it. They CAN be less accurate, although under 100 yards it's not drastic, or even noticeable sometimes.

If you're going to sporterize it, why not buy one that's already been re-stocked? They're a dime a dozen on Gunbroker, and there's a good chance you'll save a pretty penny that way.

Lastly, if you must tear it apart, I'd gladly take the original parts- I always have a customer or two with a Mosin they're needing to fix! Cheers- Mark W.

139.00 seems like a good price to me . I think the days of the 99.00 retail, mosin nagant are gone. If you find one, look for it to have a rough bore. just my experience. I own 5. one, the M38 is counterboard. haven't fire them yet. soon.
