Carolina Metal Masters AR Tactical Thread Protectors

In addition to us being off-road enthusiasts at CMM we are shooters too so we decided to make these cool flash hiders but we are calling them tactical thread protectors to be different. The other name we were thinking about using was DNA Core Sampler but that is just a little harsh. We have two designs as of now for the .223/.556 AR platform. These are out for coating and we should have them back sometime after christmas. We also make parts for the Keltec KSG shotguns and Kriss weapons.

What do you guys think?

I'll make sure I post up when they go up on the site to order. We only made a dozen of each to see how they were received. We will be making more as they have received good feedback on Facebook and other places we have posted them.

Your market is AR15 owners. What percentage of them would be offended by that? .0001% I'd guess

Hate to be the one to piss in someones corn flakes...but

But do they work?

Stuff that goes on my jeep is a lot like the stuff that goes on my gun, it has to work before looking good They look fragile, like one accidental drop on concrete they will bend.

I don't have an AR I'm willing to drop on the floor. But I will jab one into a 2x4 for you. They are 7075 T6 so they are pretty dam strong. I'll try and do a little destructive testing this weekend.

I have quite a few I am willing to drop they are made that way. (not saying I do it just to do it, but they are made to not be babied)

How well do they reduce flash or provide any braking?

Sorry if I am coming off blunt, I just don't want you guys to work on a product in a VERY competitive and picky market that the fanboys will tear apart.
In order to sell in the AR15 market you kinda have to have one or more of the following:
Works
Tough
Gimmicky
Pre-existing customer base

The more combo the better.

By the way, what are you having them coated in?

If you want one tested I will test it, post results and mail it back to you. I have zero dog in the fight as most of my AR's are setup with YHM QD's for my suppressor, so its not like I am shopping for one.
Now if you start making YHM QD clones in a brake style you have my attention Those things are a PITA to hunt down.

They look bad ass. But like Doc stated how well do they reduce flash? It's cool to see you guys getting into the AR market.

They will be hard anodized per MIL-A-8625, Type III, Class 2 black, 2.0 mil coating thickness.

As for some of the other questions we really aren't marketing them as a brake or flash hider. I'd imagine they would still function fairly well as a brake if you used washers to index the slots a 12, 3, 6, & 9 o'clock. As for a hider I didn't notice much of a difference from the factory ones that are on my RRA, Sig 556, and HK 556.

We truly built these as a last line of defense mechanism hence the DNA Sampler original name. To us it looks better than having a bayonet on the end of your AR and it also make it easier to maneuver with. We have a couple of CQB trainers in our group that worked with us in developing these and our Keltec KSG parts.

As long as the weather holds out we'll try and make a video this weekend of some destructive testing and firing.

X2 right here!

Also, I couldn't tell from the pics, but are there flat spots to use an AR wrench or regular wrench to tighten them down? If not, that could be another BIG problem. My YHM suppressor mount does not use crush washers, but call for a specific torque. I've seen muzzle brakes come loose when not torqued down enough.
